I have a team of developers who work for our company, we work daily with probably 8-10 databases.
I installed the 8.5 Client and Designer on my system at work, and the first time I went to remove a database from the Navigator, I saw this:
I can't find a way to remove it from this pop-up window, and I can only imagine how many databases will get deleted accidentally. As the fellow who manages the backup system as well, I can picture the lost productivity.
Does anyone have a solution?

It scares the living daylights out of me every time I see that dialog. I carefully use the mouse to click the yes button rather than my usual keyboard space if the default button is what I want or arrow then space if the other button is the default.

ReplyDeleteI use the Working Sets and manage things that way so I don't have to face that prompt and accidentally delete things. =)
Hi, we offer a third party product MarvelClient that - amongst many other features - allows to create rules to specify that specific (local and/or server)databases may not be deleted by certain end users (for server databases even if/though they are manager). The component can optionally be en/disabled by developers/admins through a systray icon (naturally, the systray icon can be hidden, too). If of interest, shoot me an email to florian.vogler[@]panagenda.com - I'm sure we can find a solution licensewise for 10 developers until IBM fixes the problem.
ReplyDeleteJohn, in the server document you specify you who can delete databases. Don't give all your developers that right.
ReplyDeleteIt's the admins who dabble in development as well. They have the access to delete a database, and may not be paying complete attention. (I include myself in this group)
ReplyDeleteHi. Kathy from the Domino Designer UI team here. Having the option to also delete the app when you're removing it from the navigator was standard Eclipse behavior that we adapted, but we've gotten *plenty* of feedback that this is too scary.
ReplyDeleteSo in 8.5.1, we have indeed removed the offending check box; the Remove command only removes from the navigator. And to delete the app you must use the Application - Delete menu command (on File menu, or on right-click on the app in the nav), and answer Yes to an "Are you sure" prompt.
